The Scouting Program at St. John UCC The church has been the chartered organization for both Cub Scout Pack 48 and Boy Scout Troop 48 since 1940. The Boy Scout Troop was initially chartered in 1940 and continued through 1981. The troop was re-established in 1986 and continues today for a total of 76 years. The Cub Scout Pack was initially chartered in 1958 and continued through 1980. The pack was re-established in 1985 and continues today for a total of 58 years. The church-sponsored scouting program is chartered by the Greater St. Louis Council Area of the Boy Scouts of America. The pack and troop have involved hundreds of youth and adults during its tenure. The church also sponsored Venture Crew 48 from 2005 to 2016. The venture scout program is for older boys and girls, ages 14 to 21. Venture Crew 48 focused on high-adventure activities.
Cub Scout Pack 48 provides an active program for boys, and recently girls, ages 6 through 11. Cub Scouting is a year-round program that introduces children and their parents to the world of Scouting. Through fun activities, challenging adventures, and community service projects, Cub Scouts make new friends and discover the importance of cooperation, citizenship, responsibility, and physical fitness in their everyday lives.
Boy Scout Troop 48 provides an active program for boys ages 11 through 18. Scouting is the ultimate form of learning by doing. Youth lead their own activities and participate in service, outdoor adventures, and leadership development programs. The troop participates in numerous service projects and also has an active outdoor program that includes overnight camp-outs throughout the year and a long-term summer camp. The troop is proud to note that to date 67 scouts have earned the rank of Eagle Scout since Leland Pinkel in 1945.
The Scouts and adult leaders wish to gratefully acknowledge the help and support that the Church has provided. We would also like to thank all of the adult leaders who volunteer their time and deliver a high-quality program for the scouts. We ask for your continued prayers for our leaders as they serve the youth of Collinsville and the surrounding area.
