St John offers a wide variety of services during Worship time for those individuals with different and special needs. Below is a list of those services that are made available during all Worship times.
Crib Room- The Crib Room is located on the upper level of the Education Building. It is staffed for the 9 a.m. Worship Service for children 3 and under. The room is open during the 10:30 a.m. Worship Service for families wishing to use it, but not staffed.
Activity Bags- Activity Bags are located on the brass coat tree in the Narthex. If you do not see it, just ask an usher! These bags are available for any child attending Worship. The bags contain copies of The Little Christian, activity pages, and colored pencils. We ask that the bags get returned to the coat tree after each use. The Junior High Sunday School Class restocks the bags as a mission project for the church.
Rocking Chairs- Our Sanctuary has two glider rockers located on either side of the aisle. The rockers were added for parents wanting to sooth an upset child or for people in need of comfort and/or sensory stimulation. Many people, including those on the autism spectrum and those with Alzheimer are able to benefit from the motion of rocking.
Sensory Safe Place- New to our Sanctuary is the Sensory Safe Space located in the row behind the sound station on the left side of room. This pew is designated for families who have members in need of a reduction in stimulation (thus the sights being blocked by the sound station wall and the sound reduction headphones) or a need of appropriate stimulation (thus the manipulatives provided in a basket on the pew.) Providing an area for people with special needs is one way St. John can be welcoming to those families who often times avoid Worship because they have a member that cannot tolerate sitting for so long. These are often the families who need to feel God’s love and the love of a church family and a feeling of belonging in the worst way.
